Did you receive a blue bin after submitting a request to have your green bin replaced? It’s normal. Here’s why the new bins being distributed are blue.

The gradual change in the bin colour is part of several ongoing changes, most of which will take place in 2025 at the initiative of Éco Entreprises Québec.

This non-profit organization has been appointed by the government of Québec to manage the recyclable materials collection and processing system across the province with an eye to making it more effective.

Changes in the collection of recyclable materials

Effective January 1, 2025:

  • The blue bin will be adopted gradually within city limits.
  • All containers, packaging and print materials will be accepted in the bin.
  • There will only be one list of recyclable materials for all of Québec.
  • Transparent plastic bags for recyclable materials will gradually be replaced by bins.

“Bac Impact” advertising campaigns are currently underway to promote proper sorting and teach residents about the consequences of what we put inside our recycling bins.

Green bins still in service

Green bins will continue to be emptied during the collection, but the blue bins are gradually being distributed to replace damaged green bins that cannot be repaired.
