Has your recycling bin been damaged? You can either have it repaired or, if it is not repairable, you can replace it.

We only repair bins that we have supplied. We do not repair store-bought bins.

Only the broken lid is replaceable. To ask for the lid to be replaced, call 311.

Large bin

Contact 311 to have a 360-litre bin repaired.

Your bin will be repaired at home within 10 business days between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. if the following parts are broken:

  • lid cap and lid rod 
  • lid
  • rod
  • wheel

While waiting to have your bin repaired

Put the bin upside down close to the front wall of the building, outside the fence.

You can ask your neighbour to share their bin or temporarily use transparent bags.

Repaired bin

A door hanger placed on the bin indicates that it has been repaired. 

Use a marker to write your address on the bin. If the address fades over time, write it on the bin again so that it is always clearly identified.

3. Replace a non-repairable bin

To get another bin, small or large, please contact 311.

We will take your contact information and the replacement bin will be delivered to your address.

If you want to have your broken bin collected when the new bin is delivered, be sure to make a request to that effect when you call.

While waiting for the replacement bin

Completely empty your old bin and place it upside down close to the front wall of the building, outside the fence. This will make it easier to identify your bin. It will be collected for recycling.

You can ask your neighbour to share their bin or temporarily use transparent bags.

Only buildings with nine or more dwellings have recycling bins. They are 360-litre ones.

Do you have a small 67-litre bin? This pilot project is now over. These bins cannot be repaired or replaced. You can still contact 311 to have your broken bin collected and recycled.

Organizations

Only non-profit organizations (NPOs), schools, daycare centres, hospitals and businesses have recycling bins. They are 360-litre ones.

Large bin

To request a replacement wheeled bin, you must be an owner, building manager or concierge.

We will take your contact information and the replacement bin will be delivered to your address.

Please also request to have your broken bin collected at your home.

You are entitled to one bin per single-family home or duplex. For buildings with three or more dwellings, a bin is provided for each group of three dwellings.

Organizations

Mon-profit organizations (NPO), hospitals and schools are entitled to one 360-litre bin per address or building, subject to an agreement with the Accès Montréal office.

We do not repair any bins from businesses and companies, which should have been purchased in store.

3. Replace a non-repairable bin

Call 311.

We will take your contact information and the replacement bin will be delivered to your address. You will be contacted one or two days before the scheduled delivery date.

On the day of the delivery, place your old bin close to the front wall, outside the fence. It will be collected for recycling.

Depending on the needs and the number of dwellings in your building, one or several bins will be supplied per address or building among these models:

  • Small grey and green 67-litre bin
  • Large 360-litre bin

Only the non-profit organizations (NPO) and community centres are entitled to those bins.

No bin will be supplied to schools, businesses and companies.

They must place their recyclable materials:

  • In a 50- to 150-litre transparent plastic bin, closed, weighing no more than 25 kg when full.
  • In a store-bought 360-litre green wheeled bin with a “European grip.” The European grip is the only one that is compatible with the lift systems on city trucks.

  • Contact your éco-quartier to find out if the bins are available, then go there in person with a proof of residence (hydro bill, tax account) and your broken bin to exchange it, or
  • Go to your Accès Montréal office with a proof of residence (hydro bill, tax account). However, your broken bin must be brought to your éco-quartier.

Large bin

To request a wheeled replacement bin:

The replacement bin will be delivered to your address a few weeks later.
