Get details about recycling collections
Collection schedules, accepted materials, materials that are not accepted and types of bins that are allowed. Find out how to put out recyclables according to standards.
This collection, which is available everywhere in Montréal in single-stream mode, allows you to place all your containers, packaging and print materials in a single container, green or blue, to be transported and processed at the sorting centre.
Important: Other objects or waste made of plastic, paper, cardboard, metal or glass are forbidden in the recycling bin. For example, a plastic toy or a pool cover are neither packaging nor containers.

Acceptable materials
Guidelines
- Place materials in the bin so that the lid closes completely.
- Empty and slightly rinse containers before placing them in the bin.
- Remove lids from pots and containers, except for small caps, and place lids and pots separately in the bin.
- Separate packaging materials and avoid placing them one inside the other in the bin (e.g. remove the cereal bag from the cereal box).
- Ball up even slightly soiled aluminum foil before placing it in the bin.
- To save space, flatten empty boxes and cardboard containers before placing them in the bin.
- Flatten cardboard boxes that are too large for the bin and place them next to the bin in bundles of a maximum of 1 m long, 0.5 m³ and 25 kg. Otherwise, bring them to one of our 7 ecocentres.
- Place the recycling bin near the driveway, in front of the building, as close to the road as possible.
- If there is no driveway, place the bin on the ground in front of the building, leaving the sidewalk clear.
- Wheels on bins must be turned towards your home and not towards the street.
- Recycling bins must be put away within 12 hours after the collection.
You can also bring your bottles and jars to two drop-off areas (in French). What’s the advantage? Glass won’t pollute other materials in your bin, and is easier to recycle this way.
