LaSalle's Participatory Budget 2024 - It's Time to Vote!
LaSalle’s third participatory budget process, launched last February, has reached its final stage: the beginning of the residents’ voting period.
October 14 - November 14, 2024, LaSalle residents are now invited to choose from among the projects submitted to the vote.
In 2024, $200,000 will be allocated to projects submitted by and for LaSalle residents. Out of this amount, $50,000 will come from the Comité de transition écologique de LaSalle (CTÉL) and will be used to fund one or more projects related to this theme.
Under the theme “A living environment that reflects your aspirations”, the participatory budget process aims to:
- Introduce residents to the democratic life of the municipality.
- Involve residents in improving their living environment by calling on their expertise and creativity.
- Promote social cohesion and a sense of belonging to the community.
Participatory budget stages
- First, LaSalle residents were able to submit project ideas during the idea-gathering stage, which ran from February 1 to March 1, 2024. This stage collected 145 ideas through workshops as well as through online and paper forms.
- Next, the Borough preliminarily sorted and ranked the ideas received, then developed them into feasible projects, accompanied by representatives of civic society and residents.
- Lastly, the Borough carried out a feasibility and cost analysis of the projects developed. These various stages made it possible to draw up a list of 11 projects to be put to the vote.
- LaSalle will announce the winning projects at the Borough Council meeting on December 2, 2024 and will then begin implementing them.
Who can vote?
All residents of the borough of LaSalle age 12 and over are eligible to vote. One vote per person. However, when voting, a resident may identify up to 4 projects.

The steering committee
In order to offer an approach adapted to LaSalle’s reality, a steering committee made up of elected officials, representatives of community organizations, residents and civil servants was formed to define the participatory budget process. The Borough is being assisted by the Centre d’écologie urbaine (CEU) in carrying out the process.
