The mission of the Service de l’eau (water department) is to provide drinking water to the Montréal community, manage rainwater and treat wastewater to ensure public health and safety and protect the environment, now and for future generations.

Public consultation on the future of Montréal’s water

The information and data gathered through this process will be used to guide the new municipal water strategy. This strategy will define the vision, objectives and actions required for sustainable water management in Montréal. It will be based on an analysis of the results of the public consultation and the impacts related to the various uses of water. Consultation results will also be used to adapt and improve the governance of water-related activities, as well as to identify actions to be taken to encourage behavioural change in terms of integrated resource management.
