Ahuntsic-Cartierville residents are permitted to hold a limited number of garage sales per year, per address, with no permit required. Garage sales are authorized on specific dates between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.:

  • June 4 and 5, 2022
  • July 2 and 3, 2022
  • August 6 and 7, 2022
  • September 3 and 4, 2022

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Announce the sale on your property only.
  • Remove all the posters once the sale is over.
  • Do not hold repeated garage sales or sales of a commercial nature.

Anjou residents are permitted to hold four garage sales per address, per year. A permit is required, except if the sale is held in conjunction with a community flea market event. Garage sales are only allowed between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturdays.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Do not install posters announcing the sale.

Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce residents are permitted to hold a limited number of garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required. Garage sales may not last longer than three consecutive days.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Announce the sale on your property only or in public spaces reserved for promotional displays.
  • Immediately remove all the posters once the sale is over.
  • Do not hold repeated sales or sales of a commercial nature.

Lachine residents are permitted to hold a limited number of garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required. Garage sales are authorized on the following dates between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.:

  • May 21, 22 and 23, 2022
  • June 4 and 5, 2022
  • August 6 and 7, 2022
  • September 3, 4 and 5, 2022
  • October 8, 9 and 10, 2022

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Do not sell used pillows, mattresses or couches.
  • Clean up your property no more than one hour after the end of the sale.
  • Do not hold repeated garage sales or sales of a commercial nature.
  • Announce the sale on your property only or in public spaces reserved to promotional displays.

Churches and non-profit organizations must forward their applications to the Leisure Department.

LaSalle residents are permitted to hold three garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required.

Garage sales take place: 

  • 3rd weekend in May
  • 2nd weekend in July 
  • 1st weekend in September

Garage sales are authorized between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

General rules

  • Announce the garage sale only on your property, no more than four days before the sale.
  • Use posters measuring no more than 1 square metre.

Plateau-Mont-Royal residents are permitted to hold a limited number of garage sales per year, with no permit required.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Do not hold repeated garage sales or sales of a commercial nature.

Sud-Ouest residents are permitted to hold a limited number of garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required.

For residents, garage sales are authorized on the first and third Saturdays of every month from May through October, between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. In the event of rain, the garage sale is postponed to the following Sunday.

For non-profit organizations, garage sales are authorized on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month from May to October. 

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • On the day of the sale, install no more than two posters on your property.
  • Do not install a poster on a vehicle.
  • Use posters that are less than 0.30 square metres in size.
  • Do not use illuminated posters.

L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève residents are permitted to hold two garage sales per address, per year. A permit is required for each garage sale, and permits are issued free of charge. Once the permit is issued, the garage sale cannot be postponed, even in the event of bad weather.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Announce the sale on your property only.
  • Immediately remove the posters once the sale is over.

Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve residents are permitted to hold two garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required. A garage may not last more than three consecutive days.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Announce the sale on your property only.
  • Remove all the posters once the sale is over.

In Montréal-Nord, residents are permitted to hold four garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required.

Who can hold a garage sale?

  • Individuals, on the private property of their dwelling.
  • Non-profit organizations, on their organization’s property.

Garage sales take place:

  • On National Patriots’ Day weekend in May and the following weekend (May 21, 22, 23, 28 and 29).
  • September 1st weekend, and the following weekend (September 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11).

Garage sales are authorized between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and may not last more than three consecutive days.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Make sure the items on display do not block the view of road users.
  • Advertise the sale with a maximum of two posters, posted only on the property where the sale is taking place.
  • Use posters measuring no more than one square metre.
  • Place the items for sale no more than two hours prior to the start of the sale and remove them no more than two hours after the end of the sale.

In Outremont, garage sales are authorized between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m on the following four weekends:

  • The first full weekend of June, July and August
  • The weekend and Monday coinciding with Labour Day.

No permit is required for this activity. However, you must comply with the requirements of Chapter III of the by-law below.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • The property must be cleared of unsold items and displays no later than one hour after the end of the authorized sales period.
  • All garage sale signs must be removed no later than one hour after the end of the authorized sales period.

Pierrefonds-Roxboro residents are permitted to hold two garage sales per address, per year. A permit is required for each garage sale. Permits are issued free of charge.

Garage sales are authorized between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m and may not last more than two consecutive days.

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Use only the four posters supplied by the borough.
  • Remove the posters no more than 24 hours after the end of the sale.

Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles residents are permitted to hold two garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required. Garage sales are authorized on the following dates and may not last more than three consecutive days:

  • The weekend and Monday of Patriots’ Day
  • The weekend and Monday of Labour Day

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • Do not hold repeated garage sales or sales of a commercial nature.
  • Make sure the items you sell are safe and comply with safety standards set out by Health Canada and in the Hazardous Products Act.

Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie residents are permitted to hold four garage sales per address, per year, with no permit required. Garages sales cannot be postponed, even in the event of bad weather.

  • May 21,22 and 23, 2022
  • June 4 and 5, 2022 
  • August 6 and 7, 2022
  • September 3 and 4, 2022

General rules

  • Do not hold repeated garage sales or sales of a commercial nature.

Garage sales are authorized without a permit at the following times:

  • Patriot’s Day weekend (the weekend and the statutory holiday on Monday) 
  • Labour Day weekend (the weekend and the statutory holiday on Monday)  

Garage sales are authorized from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

General rules

  • Place the items for sale on your property or in the adjacent alleyway, without encroaching on the sidewalk.
  • If the garage sale is held in an alleyway: leave a passage for pedestrians measuring 1.5 metres in width and a passage for cars measuring at least 2.4 metres in width.
  • Install the posters on your property no more than four days prior to the garage sale, and remove them no more than one hour after the end of the sale.
  • Clear out your property or alleyway no more than one hour after the end of the garage sale.
  • Do not use illuminated posters.
