If you are a passenger and need a safe area to get into or out of a vehicle, or if you regularly drive someone who has reduced mobility, you can apply to have a passenger drop-off zone created near your home or workplace. Find out what you need to do.

A drop-off zone will not be authorized if access facilities already exist less than 12 metres away from the main entrance to the building:

  • a sidewalk ramp
  • a standpipe
  • an area where parking is prohibited

  • Medical report written within the past two years that states the nature of the disability
  • Letter stating that the application is for a vehicle driven by an accompanying person, [my translation, couldn’t find it anywhere] or for an adapted vehicle. Include the desired location of the drop-off zone and your name, address and phone number
  • Copy of driver’s license
  • Copy of vehicle registration certificate
  • Copy of lease agreement

Legislation

You can ask for a loading zone to be created near your home, workplace or any destination that disabled people visit on a regular basis.

However, the request will be refused if access facilities already exist within 12 metres of the main access to the building, such as a drop-off or curb ramp.

Requests to create loading zones will also be refused if, at the desired location, there is already:

  • A fire hydrant
  • A no-parking zone
